SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
Commitment to Sustainability
At the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We are dedicated to adopting eco-friendly practices, supporting our local community, and reducing our environmental impact while celebrating the heritage of Southeast Alaska.
Sustainable Business Practices
We continually strive to reduce waste and conserve resources throughout our operations:
- Offering reusable bags and items at our concessions and company store to eliminate single-use plastics.
- Recycling materials whenever possible, despite local limitations.
- Transitioning to paperless ticketing and office procedures to minimize paper consumption.
Community Support and Engagement
Our roots in the Ketchikan community run deep, and we proudly contribute in meaningful ways:
- Providing free firewood to local residents, helping them heat their homes sustainably.
- Hosting and supporting events such as fundraisers, socials, concerts, and wellness initiatives.
- Offering donation-based shows and scholarships to benefit local causes and education.
- Promoting community involvement with discounted tickets for locals and complimentary shows for students, daycare groups, and senior citizens.
- Engaging in volunteer efforts and contributing to local fundraisers, ensuring the well-being of our neighbors.
Environmental Stewardship
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint through thoughtful and innovative measures:
- Transitioning from gas to electric equipment to lower fuel consumption.
- Installing energy-efficient systems, such as on-demand propane water heaters, electric boilers, and heat pumps, to reduce energy use.
- Using trees from a research facility dedicated to studying sustainable biofuel sources.
- Sourcing food locally and ethically for our Dungeness Crab Feast to support regional producers.
- Conserving water with efficient bathroom devices and partnering with local organizations to repurpose water during pond refills.
By embracing these initiatives, we aim to preserve the natural beauty and resources of Southeast Alaska while creating a positive impact for both our visitors and our community.
